This powerful oil painting is part of Kath’s “Hypnagogia” series, is called “April is the Cruellest Month”. A name that derives its name from a TS Eliot iconic poem called “The Wasteland”. The canvas portrays a desolate and surreal landscape, where the remnants of a once vibrant civilization lie in ruins, symbolizing the shattered dreams and disillusionment of the modern world. The colour palette combination of muted earth tones and blues reflects the gloomy atmosphere of the wasteland. In the foreground, a barren wasteland stretches far and wide, void of life and hope. The soil seems scorched and inhospitable, devoid of nourishment, suggesting the underlying decay of society and the human spirit. In the distance, the ruins of an ancient structure stand as a mournful sentinel, its forms hinting of past grandeur. These fragments serve as poignant reminders of the ephemeral nature of the natural environment. Nature has begun to reclaim these once proud creations, as creeping waters encroach upon the decaying forms.
